What is the right amount of material I need for my project?
By-Pass Mulch provides an effective tool that lets you estimate how much you will need to effectively cover any area. The numbers provided by our mulch calculator chart will make it easier to figure out what it will cost to get enough of your choice of mulch. All you need are a few basic measurements, and the mulch calculator will do the rest.
1. Measure the area you want to cover.
If you are going to be mulching a square or rectangular bed, measure the length and width. Let's say your length is 32 feet and your width is 5 feet. That means total square footage is 160 feet. 32 ft. X 5 ft. = 160
2. Determine the depth of mulch or stone you'd like to use. The general recommendation is about 3 inches of mulch in a planting bed. Many materials like wood chips settle so add an extra 1/2 to 1 inch of the material to account for the decrease in volume.
3. Fill in the numbers using one of the By-Pass calculators below and press the "calculate" button.
